Enugu welcomes Simon Ekpa’s arrest in Finland

The Enugu State Government has commended the arrest of Simon Ekpa by Finnish authorities.

It described Ekpa as a “terrorist and criminal” with no regard for the well-being of the Igbo people.

Secretary to the State Government Prof. A statement issued by Chidibere Oniya on Friday expressed the administration's readiness to present evidence against Ekpa, whom the government accused of exploiting and destabilizing the south-east region.

The Finland-based separatist has been arrested by a district court in Lahti on terrorism charges and remanded in custody, in a move the state government believes will enhance peace and stability in the region.

The statement read, “Enugu State Government welcomes the arrest of Finland-based terrorist Simon Ekpa.

“His arrest and trial will undoubtedly strengthen peace, security and stability in all parts of the South-East.”

The statement accused Ekpa of creating an atmosphere of fear and destruction in the area, causing loss of lives and property while weakening the Igbo spirit of entrepreneurship and resilience.

It says, “Ekpa, for too long and unfortunately for Finland, has made a living by creating a siege mentality in the south-east.

“He manipulates and extorts people under the pretext of fighting for their interests and the restoration of Biafra.”

The state government promised to cooperate with Finnish authorities to ensure that Ekpa is brought to justice for his alleged actions, including inciting violence and promoting instability in the south-east.
