The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has forecast thunderstorms and rain across the country from Friday to Sunday.
The Nimet weather forecast issued in Abuja on Thursday predicted thunderstorms to occur in parts of Borno, Yobe, Kaduna, Taraba, Jigawa, Gombe and Bauchi states on Friday morning.
According to the agency, thunderstorms are expected in parts of Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Kaduna, Katsina, Bauchi, Adamawa, Jigawa and Kano states later in the day.
“Thunderstorms are expected in the morning hours over the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Kwara, Nasarawa and parts of Plateau States.
“Thunderstorms are expected in the afternoon/evening hours over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Nasarawa, Kogi and Benue States.
“Rainfall is expected in the morning in parts of Abia, Imo, Oyo, Edo, Delta and Akwa Ibom states.
It said, “Rainfall is expected in parts of Enugu, Anambra, Ekiti, Ondo, Oyo, Osun, Edo, Delta, Lagos, Cross River, Rivers and Bayelsa states later in the day.”
For Saturday, the agency has forecast thunderstorms in parts of Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Katsina, Kano and Taraba states during the morning hours.
It also predicted thunderstorms to hit parts of Sokoto, Adamawa, Kebbi, Taraba, Kaduna, Kano, Gombe, Bauchi and Katsina states later in the day.
According to it, thunderstorms are expected in the morning in parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa and Niger States.
Nimet has forecast thunderstorms in parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Plateau, Nasarawa and Niger states later in the day.
The agency forecast rains in parts of Osun, Edo, Delta and Lagos states during the morning hours.
It forecast incessant rains in parts of Enugu, Imo, Anambra, Ebonyi, Ogun, Osun, Oyo, Ondo and Ekiti states.
The coastal states of Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta, Edo, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states will also receive rain later in the day.
“Thunderstorms are expected in parts of Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states on Sunday morning.
“Towards the end of the day, thunderstorms are expected in parts of Yobe, Jigawa, Katsina, Kano, Sokoto, Bauchi and Kaduna states.
“The North Central region is expected to be cloudy and sunny with chances of thunderstorms in some parts of Niger State during the afternoon/evening.
It said, “The south is expected to be cloudy with rain likely to occur in parts of Ondo, Edo, Delta and Bayelsa states during the afternoon/evening.”
Nimet has warned residents of major cities that flooding is likely due to heavy rains.
Accordingly, the public should take adequate caution as strong winds may precede the rains in the areas where the storm is likely to hit.
“Follow the safety advice issued by the relevant authorities.
“The public and airline operators are advised to obtain updated weather reports and forecasts from NiMet to effectively plan their operations.
