The House of Representatives has written to the Canadian Government urging it to investigate and prosecute Amaka Patience Sundberger, a Nigerian citizen living in Canada, for making threatening comments against Yoruba and other Nigerians of Benin origin.
In a video clip that trended on X.com on Tuesday, a female voice was heard making anti-Yoruba remarks during a virtual meeting on TikTok.
The lady, who claimed to be a resident of Ontario, Canada, vowed to carry the poisonous substance to her workplace and harm any Yoruba or Benin person she encounters.
He claimed his comments were in response to “hatred” towards the Igbo.

In a letter signed by Biodun Omoleye and Tochukwu Chinedu Okere, the federal lawmakers expressed worry over Sunberger’s provocative statements, which according to them is a direct threat to the lives and security of millions of Nigerians.
The letter read, “On behalf of the Nigeria-Canada Parliamentary Friendship Group and the House Committee on Diaspora Affairs, we are writing to express our deep concern regarding the actions of Ms Amaka Patience Sundberger, a Nigerian citizen residing in Canada.
“Ms. Sundberger has recently been recorded making inflammatory statements inciting violence against the Yoruba and Edo ethnic groups in Nigeria, including advocating poisoning their food and water supplies in order to carry out their mass genocide.
“Ms. Sundberger’s recorded statements are a direct threat to the lives and safety of millions of Nigerians. Her incitement to violence and call for genocide through venom is not only extremely disturbing, but also represents a clear violation of numerous international, Canadian and Ontario laws.
“This kind of rhetoric is dangerous and has the potential to incite real-world violence within Nigeria and among Nigerian immigrants.”
The letter highlighted Sundberger’s violations of international, Canadian and Ontario laws, including the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination and Canada’s Criminal Code.
The MPs also requested an immediate and thorough investigation into Sundberger’s actions, his prosecution under relevant Canadian laws, a public condemnation of his actions by the Canadian government, and cooperation with Nigerian authorities to prevent a potential escalation of violence.
The letter further said, “Given the severity of these violations, we respectfully request the following action:
“INVESTIGATION: Ms. Sundberger’s actions must be immediately and thoroughly investigated by Canadian law enforcement and appropriate authorities.
“Prosecution: We urge that Ms. Sundberger be prosecuted under the relevant sections of the Criminal Code of Canada to hold her accountable for incitement to genocide and hate speech.
“Public condemnation: We request that the Government of Canada issue a public condemnation of Ms. Sundberger's actions to reaffirm Canada's commitment to combating violence, genocide and persecution.
“Cooperation with Nigerian authorities: We also request that Canadian authorities cooperate with Nigerian authorities to prevent any potential escalation of violence as a result of Ms. Sundberger's incitement, and to ensure that justice is served.”
