Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have arrested 10 suspects, including eight Boko Haram terrorists (BHT) and two high-profile kidnap informants in Taraba State.
Acting on credible intelligence, troops raided the residence of a terrorist leader, Tukura Abdul-Karim, in Sunkani Ward of Ardo-Kola Local Government Area on 29 September, resulting in the arrest of one Abdul-Karim and seven additional suspects. The Acting Assistant Director, 6 Brigade Army Public Relations, Captain Olubodunde Oni, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.
He said investigations revealed that the terrorists were planning to establish a sleeper cell within Taraba State to launch Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attacks on innocent persons and vital facilities within the state.
According to him, Abdul-Karim also confessed that he had been involved in BHT for a long time along with his brother Adamu Abdul-Karim, who is still hibernating in the bushes with the terrorists in an undisclosed area.
Items recovered from the suspects included nine mobile phones, identity cards, wraps of controlled substances suspected to be marijuana and other hard drugs.
In a separate operation, troops deployed to Chachanji village in Takum LGA arrested two informants linked to a high-profile kidnapping syndicate on September 30.

According to the statement, it is known that the individuals provided vital information to the kidnappers, who were assisting a wanted notorious criminal known as Enigo and his gang, as well as about the activities of the troops within the area. The two suspects, Patience Awadu Tersu and Joy Ngumu Emmanuel, are believed to be Enigo's wife and sister.

Commenting on the successful operations, the Commander of 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidibere Uwa, commended the troops of 6 Brigade for their exceptional dedication and professionalism in carrying out these successful operations.
He said the prompt action of the troops foiled a dangerous terror plot and saved the lives of innocent people.
General Uwa expressed his gratitude to the good citizens of Taraba State for their continued vigilance and cooperation.
He said the confidence and support of the Brigade is vital in its ongoing efforts to maintain peace and security within the state.
“Together, we will continue to ensure a more secure Taraba and Nigeria at large,” he said.
