Two suspected fake pastors identified as Bassey and Elijah have been arrested with fetish objects recovered at Rumuduru community of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.
In a statement issued on Friday in Port Harcourt, Rivers Police Command spokesperson, SP Grace Iring-Koko, said Bassey and Elizag were arrested by Rumuduru youths, who later handed them over to the police.
The police spokesperson said Bassey and Elijah were operating two separate churches within the community.
“The fake pastors were handed over to the police on January 20 by the youth of Rumuduru led by their president, Henry Worloo.
“The youths raided the area and arrested Bassey and Elijah from their respective churches.
“During interrogation, Bessie admitted to using spiritual materials, such as water and oil, to heal individuals suffering from spiritual odors.
“He also revealed that he used a small coffin and a 'miracle life oil' to pray for people with mental issues, claiming they would be cured within three months,” Iring- Coco said.
He said Bassi had been residing and operating in the Rumuduru community for 17 years.
Items recovered from the suspects included a firearm cartridge, small wooden coffins, a sword, a fake Nigerian Navy identity card and thousands of photographs.
Other items seized were children's shoes, a police lanyard and various crosses and spiritual paraphernalia.
