The 36-year-old farmer, Sunday Ayenis, hails from Uba Oka. Chikan South-West Local Government Areawas murdered just days after he was paid compensation by his herders for damaging his crops.
Villagers alleged that herders were responsible for the killing, saying Ayenis was found dead in his farm with his intestines protruding out.
It was discovered that his dog, which had accompanied him to the field, had also been killed and was found lying next to him.
Sources say the attack occurred because the herders were unhappy with the amount of compensation given to them.
The compensation was reportedly negotiated between security agents and community elders.
According to the source: “He went to his farm with his dog yesterday as usual but he did not return in time and this forced the search party to go into the bush.
“It was the search party that found his lifeless body soaked in blood, with his dog and cutlass by his side.”
Mr Pius Imoru, a farmer and community leader, said the entire community was in mourning.
Imoru said they are now afraid to go to their farms because of the herdsmen attacks.
It was gathered that a joint security team comprising the police and the Amotekun Corps has been deployed to search for the attackers.
