Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) Limited Has promised to work with stakeholders to develop Nigerian football and commercialize the game in the country.
Group Chief Executive Officer, NNPC Limited, Mele Kyari expressed this commitment while welcoming a delegation of the National Sports Commission, International Management Group (IMG) and AfroSport Network at the NNPC Towers yesterday.
Addressing the delegation led by the National Sports Commission (NSC) Chairman Shehu Dikko, Kyari said the NNPC Limited is ready to be part of the initiative to revive football in the country.
Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soni quoted Kyari in a press statement as saying: “NNPC is a key player in our journey to bring value back into football, reshape it, re-engineer it and bring joy to our people Will be a partner.”
He expressed delight that the company was recognized as a key partner in the journey to re-engineer Nigerian football, stressing that football is a highly valuable tool for the growth of the Nigerian economy and NNPC Limited as a company. Can provide untold benefits.
Speaking earlier, the NSC Chairman said football was fundamental to the economies of the best footballing countries in the world, adding that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called for urgent action to revive the I'mGame.
He said the multiplier effect of football is huge and can help in the revival of related industries in the value chain.
Dikko further said that IMG, which promotes the English Premier League, was invited as a technical partner to take advantage of their experience in the game.
It could be recalled that NNPC Limited once had a football club, NNPC FC, Warri, which played in Division One of the then Nigeria National League before it was disbanded in 1989.
