Senator of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ireti Kingibe has responded to remarks made by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, threatening to remove her from office in 2027. Kingibe and Wike have been at odds with each other since they assumed power.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the Mabushi Bus Terminal earlier this month, the minister predicted that the FCT senator would not win the support of citizens in the nation’s capital in the 2027 general elections.
Wike described it as disappointing that instead of working with the FCT administration, Kingibe was upset that people there were praising the President Bola Tinubu-led administration.
Besides, Wike advised the senator to commit suicide by hanging himself from a transformer if he was dissatisfied with his FCT performance.
Responding, Kinigibe remarked that Wike does not understand the idea of leadership in the Federal Capital Territory and that the minister should not address him in such a rude manner.
In an interview on Channels TV’s Political Paradigm, the LP Senator said Wike should apologise to her because she is much older than him.
He said, “He clearly does not understand the concept of FCT. Even if he does, it is not personal. He says, ‘I don’t want to be his friend.’ How can governance translate into friendship?
“I am actually ready to do everything to work with the minister of the Federal Capital Territory provided that he first apologises for the fact that he said I should go and hang on the transformer.

“Once he does that, it's all over. We can start afresh, but until then, everyone stays within their limits. With all due respect, I'm much older than him. Etiquette also demands that he shouldn't talk to me like that.”
