A 24-hour curfew has been imposed in Kaduna after violence broke out in the state, due to which the streets here remained deserted on Tuesday.

Some protesters were also seen holding and raising the Russian flag as they expressed their frustration against the prevailing hardship and hunger in the country.
Our correspondents who visited the city reported that the Sheikh Abubakar Gumi central market in the Kaduna State capital is deserted due to the curfew.
Shops, petrol pumps and markets also remained closed on Tuesday.
On Monday, the Inspecting Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, said the curfew was a measure taken in the interest of peace.
He said the state governor, Senator Uba Sani, announced the curfew after a meeting with the state security council.
“There is ample evidence that the ongoing protests have been taken over by criminal elements who have looted shops and destroyed private and public property,” he said.
“In view of this unfortunate development, the Kaduna State Security Council has unanimously resolved to impose a 24-hour curfew in the Kaduna and Zaria metropolises and environs with immediate effect.
“Citizens are advised to remain indoors while security forces continue to work to maintain safety and security. Monitoring will continue to review the curfew as needed.”
