President of the Coastal Dwellers Association of West Africa, Arc Tom Inko-Taria, has described as false and mischievous a report in the media that resource control and minority rights advocate, Alhaji Mujahid Abubakar Dokubo-Asari, is against the current protests in Nigeria.
According to Arc Tariah, mischief makers on the social media have cut, pasted and edited a long speech delivered by Alabo Ade Abali of the Kalabari Kingdom at a recent NDDC event held in Port Harcourt, giving it a different meaning.
A statement issued by the President, Coastal Dwellers Association of West Africa, Arch Tom Inko Taria, said the claim about Alhaji Mujahid Abubakar Dokubo-Asari, a prominent minority rights advocate in the Niger Delta, was false, insisting that Dokubo-Asari, known for his lifelong dedication to fighting for the people, cannot change at this stage of his life.
Taria highlighted Dokubo-Asari's unwavering commitment to standing with the people and fighting for justice and equality throughout her career. She said that while Dokubo-Asari may have expressed concern about the potential for violence and chaos during the protests, her stance is based on a desire to uphold democratic principles and prevent any instability in the country.
He said, “Alhaji Mujahid Abubakar Dokubo-Asari has always fought for the rights of marginalised communities in the Niger Delta and beyond. His focus has been on eliminating systemic injustice and promoting peaceful resolution of grievances,” Tariah said. “It is important to understand that his concern is not with the legitimate grievances of the protesters but with the threats of anarchy and attempts to subvert the democratic process through unconstitutional means.”
