Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) General Christopher Moses has expressed hope that the Government of Finland will extradite Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) faction leader Simon Ekpa to Nigeria to face justice following his arrest in the European Union. Country on Thursday.
General Moses said this while expressing happiness over the arrest and detention by Finnish authorities of Simon Ekpa, who is believed to be behind the violence in the south east part of the country.
Director of Defense Information, Brigadier-General. Tukur Gusau made this known in a statement on Thursday in Abuja.
“The CDS is happy with his arrest in Finland, hopefully this will be a step towards his extradition to Nigeria so he can face justice,” he said.
Furthermore, the Director of Defense Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba said the CDS had always sought the arrest of Simon Ekpa because of his deep involvement in promoting terrorism in South East Nigeria.
“We are pleased with his arrest and glad that the international community is partnering with Nigeria in our fight against terrorism,” he said.
In March, the Army declared 97 individuals wanted for terrorism, violent extremism and separatist threats against the country.
Those declared wanted include Simon Ekpa, who lives in Finland but is believed to be behind insecurity in the south-east region.
News of Ekpa's arrest in Finland came on Thursday, citing Finnish local newspapers.
