Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has said his administration has recorded tremendous achievements in various sectors of the state economy in the last eight years.
Citing the remarkable progress made by his regime in healthcare, education, agriculture and economic empowerment, he reiterated the need for continuity for the benefit of citizens.
Speaking during a press briefing at the Government House, Benin City, the Governor detailed the progress made in key areas that have improved the lives of Edo citizens and prepared the state for long-term sustainable development.
Governor Obaseki highlighted the government's success in healthcare, highlighting investments in expanding access to quality medical services.
“There has been a significant transformation in our health care system, with the revival of primary health centres, construction of new hospitals and the introduction of health insurance schemes to ensure affordable care for Edo indigenes and residents. We are protecting the future of our citizens,” the Governor said.
In the field of education, Obaseki praised the Edo Basic Education Sector Transformation Programme, noting how it reshaped learning in public schools
“Through EdoBEST, we have laid a solid foundation for future generations by improving the quality of teaching and creating an inclusive education system. No child will be left behind in Edo,” he affirmed.
The Governor also pointed to his administration's notable gains in agriculture, where initiatives aimed at enhancing food security and empowering farmers were implemented.
According to him, the state has become a hub of agriculture with the adoption of modern agricultural technologies and farmer-friendly policies. “We are now a significant contributor to the national food basket, and our rural communities are more prosperous because of this agricultural revolution,” he said.
The Governor reiterated his administration's commitment to creating opportunities for youth, women and small business owners, stating, “We are focused on equipping our people with the skills and resources they need to participate in the modern economy. Our entrepreneurship programs have enabled thousands of people to become self-reliant, thereby contributing to reducing unemployment.”
He stressed the importance of continuity in governance for long-term development.
“It is important that the incoming administration builds on the solid foundation we have laid. Consistency is important to maintain the progress achieved. By continuing these reforms and initiatives, Edo can only grow stronger. “The people of Edo deserve coherent, responsible governance that ensures their welfare and delivers sustainable benefits,” Obaseki advised.
He reiterated his commitment towards a smooth transition and urged all stakeholders to remain focused on the collective well-being of the state. “We have demonstrated that progress can be achieved with the right policies and dedication. I encourage the next leadership to remain committed to the vision of a prosperous, inclusive Edo State. “Together, we can continue to lift up our people and secure a brighter future for all.”
