Governor Adeleke approves new minimum wage for Osun workers

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on Wednesday approved N75,000 as the minimum wage for civil servants in the state.

The Governor entrusted the workers with the task of productivity and effective service delivery to promote socio-economic development of the state.

Commissioner for Information and Public Knowledge, Kolapo Alimi, announced the approval of the new minimum wage in a statement shared with journalists on Wednesday.

The N75,000 is more than the N70 million national minimum wage previously approved by the Federal Government for federal workers.

Mr Alimi, a member of the Public Service Negotiating Committee, which is busy drafting the blueprint for the minimum wage, said the approval by Mr Adeleke came after the state government reviewed the committee's report.

The statement indicated that the state government team was led by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Kazeem Akinleye, while the labor team was led by the Chairman of the Nigerian Labor Congress (NLC) in the state, Christopher Arapassopo.

It said, “The implementation of the N75,000 minimum wage for Osun workers is in line with the commitment to social justice, economic growth and improved living standards for workers and citizens.

“The Governor Adeleke led administration is deeply committed to prioritizing the welfare of civil servants and is working tirelessly to deliver efficient, effective and quality services to the state despite limited resources.”

The statement said Mr Adeleke urged all civil servants in the state to enhance their service delivery by finding innovative solutions to improve public service to ensure transparency and accountability for the growth and development of the 33-year-old state.

“The committee discharged its duties and responsibilities without any hindrance from the state government which tasked it with working on the new salary template,” the statement quoted the Chief of Staff to the governor, Mr Akinleye, as saying.

In his remarks, the State Chairman of the NLC, Mr. Arapasopo, also commended Mr. Adeleke’s government for the N75,000 new salary, noting that it was carefully designed to suit the current economic situation of Osun State.
