Five armed Palestinians were killed in an Israeli military operation in Tulkarem in the West Bank, the Israeli military said on Thursday.
The army said that these people had barricaded themselves in a mosque.
It further said that there was alleged exchange of fire with the troops.
“One of the dead was described as a high-ranking leader of a terrorist network in a local refugee camp,” the Israeli military said.
According to the report, Muhammad Jabbar is accused of being involved in several attacks.
The army said one of those attacks killed an Israeli civilian in June.
Another militant Palestinian was arrested during the operation in Tulkaram.
An Israeli border soldier was injured.
On Wednesday, Israel launched a large-scale military operation in the northern West Bank.
At least 11 people were killed on Wednesday alone, according to Palestinian sources.
An Israeli army spokesman justified the action by citing a significant increase in the number of attacks on Israelis.
Simultaneously, violence by extremist Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank has also increased.
The situation in the West Bank has deteriorated rapidly since the Gaza war began.
This war is the culmination of the genocide committed by the Palestinian terrorist organization Hamas and others in southern Israel on October 7, 2023.
Since then, 635 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli military operations, clashes or their own attacks in the West Bank.
